The word of the day is, Corruption. I couldn't get this word out of my mind, so I thought I'd dig up a little on the definition and share what I found. This word is being used everywhere in the media, on Twitter and Facebook, - we are actually witnessing for ourselves the corruption in factual situations on the news and throughout social media. This word, corruption, is being used daily in the media and it's bouncing around so easily, but are we really focusing on the true meaning of corruption, or is it just going in one ear, and out the other, prehaps desensitizing us to what is happening?
What does corruption mean? Definition of corruption is, dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery: the process by which something, typically a word or expression, is changed from its original use or meaning to one that is regarded as erroneous or debased. (Per Dictionary and Wikipedia)
The key that we should all be aware of is, - if someone or something is corrupt, they’re broken morally or in some other way. Corrupt people perform immoral or illegal acts for personal gain, without apology.
Corruption is a symptom, not the root, of the problem. It is a symptom of a government gone weak or non-existent. If corruption is in a business or a church, the reason is the same, the leadership has gone weak or is in a non-active position, or the leadership is the reason for the corruption.
If a corrupt person is given power, they will be more corrupt. Power doesn't make them a better person. It usually has the reverse effect. More power, more corruption.
Would it help to give this attention, know the meaning of corruption, and how serious this really is? Of course! To be deceived could be a huge mistake. Knowledge is good, always has been and for the most part always will be. Ignorance has never saved anyone. Caring that illegal acts or immoral acts may be going on in something we promote or support is the difference of being a part of something wrong and taking a step away so we are not part of any thing corrupt.
Most people who are not corrupt, would agree and would never want to be regarded as corrupt due to who they associate with. That alone is a good reason to pay attention and find out what's really going on. Being informed so we can make the right decisions is always a winner.
Dishonesty, fraud, immoral acts, and illegal acts are all around us, but we don't have to be a part of them. We can choose our own way to go. Decisions to do so, aren't always easy, but so worth it!
Being desensitized makes us less likely to feel shock, distress at scenes of cruelty, violence, or suffering by overexposure to such images and media. Wow! Think on that, do we want to be desensitized?
It's something to think about. I love hearing from readers, firstname.lastname@example.org
